3. Which of the readings did you like best and why?

I like the text that called « Horatio Alger, Jr. » because it was devoted to life of the writer and his works. It was really interesting to know about such important topics which were discussed by Horatio Alger in his books like achieving of success due to hardworking. His life was just a sample for others. I think he was really hardworking in spite of he was son of a minister. And he could not take some measures in creation of his career and just wait for actions of his father, but he did not. He was a go-getter, and he tried to show through his works that who works hardly may achieve respectable and successful life. He has shown that such possibility is open even for poor and homeless children.

2. Why is studying a language, such as English, important in today’s global economy?

Today we often hear such concept as globalization which means integration between countries’ economies becomes higher. Recently many international companies have appeared in our country and have made a business here. It says about some international processes like international trade takes place. First of all we need to learn English in order to be involved and participate in this process. Knowledge of English language opens many perspectives to people nowadays. I want to mention such side as education. There are many international programs that provide a chance, for example, for Kazakhstan students to get bachelors or master degree abroad! English language is the first main step to the radiant future!

1. What do you remember your grandparents or older members in your family telling you about Soviet days?

Older members of my family often remembered Soviet days from different points of view.Eventually I was born at this of many faces time. The time of Soviet Union was very difficult for most of people, because member countries had a restructuring of whole economic, political and social process. Many people were left without work and any sources of living. Value of money at those time was depreciated that caused by inflation. This situation was complicated by the food crisis in the country. People stood in a queue for some products from early morning till deep night. Every family had similar conditions for living at Soviet time. But at those times education level at schools and universities was much higher than nowadays. Any elective classes were available for each Soviet child such as dancing, any kind of sports, naturalistic classes and others. Approximately all Soviet children were involved in some activities. Our parents could travel all over the countries that were involved in Soviet Union partially for free!

About Home Task

I made four exercises on improving my reading skills that were concerned the understanding vocabulary from context. I found all texts interesting for me because it contained new useful information at different fields. But I want to mention the fourth text that was «Edina Ferber» that seems to be the most substantive and attractive for me. I was impressed by Edina Ferber’ writing style and topics which were thrown light upon her novels. From my point of view Edina Ferber was very brave writer, because she touched upon the issue of the place of a woman in society at that time. This text was very descriptive about works of American novelist.

Why I like English?

English is international language that comes to be widespread overall in the world. If you know English, you can communicate not only with people who are the same nation as you. Diversified culture is very interesting for me. I found English as main instrument to the understanding between people who interested in each other. English language opens up many possibilities in education, job and simple life. Nowadays on Kazakhstan labor market knowledge of English is required, moreover for international companies. But important thing is not only aspiration (tendency) for learning English but loving English. Then, indeed English can give many perspectives in our future.

My family

My family consists of four people. These are my father, mother, my older sister and me. I am from Karaganda. Nowadays my parents live in this city. But I and my sister live in Almaty for a long time. But our parents visit us very often. As I have some opportunity to go to Karaganda and I have time, I always do it. My father’s name is Vladimir. He is very kind, but sometimes exacting and strict. He likes to read books, newspapers, watch some informational programs and unravel crosswords in free time. My mother’s name is Natalie. She likes to cook very much. As I remember my mother loved to amuse us by some new kinds of meals at the evenings. Give me the good old times! I and my parents are not only relatives; moreover, we are the best friends. I think this is very important in each relationship. I know that my family always understand, support and help me in difficult time and share with my gladness. I love my family very much! I hope that my parents as soon as possible will come to Almaty and we will together! My older sister, Arina, graduated Karaganda State University with marketing specialty. Then one Almaty company made her a job offer, and she accepted it. Thereby my sister came to be in Almaty. Nowadays she got married and has two children. After school I entered to the Suleiman Demirel University that is also in Almaty. I am going to graduate my university at this year, hopefully on May.
